6ix Things to Know About Bucketlist 6ix
One: Who am I?
Call me by the name: Brian – because that’s my real name – nothing fancy, nothing cool! I was born and raised by my Filipino parents in Winnipeg, Manitoba after they decided that it would be home when they separately made the decision when they were just about my age now, to leave the Philippines and start a life elsewhere.
And now, just like the stars that my fate was written in, I too am feeling that burning desire inside myself, to explore and find a home somewhere else.
“Everything the light touches…” is what Mufasa said to Simba.
When I was 18, “the light” touched Toronto on my first trip away from home with my best friend. I instantly fell in love with the city and promised myself that one day I would move. Many years later, that day is nearing very quickly!
I have a Communications background with a major in Public Relations and I have been working in the industry since I graduated college in 2012. I have been a communications specialist, event planner, ghostwriter, editor, videographer, and have even had my hand in design – all in a mix of corporate, non-profit, freelance, and fun.
In the near future – when I get my (pardon my English) “shit” together – my plan is to own my own business helping people manage and brand their own businesses online – a social media marketing agency for small independent businesses.
Two: Why am I blogging?
In reality I am blogging to have an accessible place to organize my thought process and to leave myself clues for later on in life of what I did during which month and what year. It’s like digital data storage for my thoughts so I don’t have to really think for myself. That was a joke… kind of.
Once upon a time I used to blog a lot. I had a blog about the sky – you know, that #skyporn shit? Then I had a personal blog with no real focus, more of a diary type. I also once had a blog for school about my school activities and school stuff, but somehow in the process of turning a passion into career while I was in school, it kind of sucked out all the energy and passion I had for free writing – because I was now writing proposals left and right, news releases and career focused stuff. So I stopped. I have been meaning to get back into it, so I guess this is it.
Three: What will I be blogging about?
Like I mentioned, I am a small city boy from Winnipeg who is moving to Toronto to (fingers crossed) hopefully make a life for myself. While this blog will feature the trials and tribulations of “a small city boy from Winnipeg who is moving to Toronto to hopefully make a life for himself,” I hope to also use it as a guide for others in the same position, as I go through my own experiences: what to dos and what not to dos when moving to Toronto; places to visit and landmarks to see in Toronto; things to eat in Toronto – that sort of thing… in Toronto.
Four: Who am I writing for?
- Myself – usually I am a very busy dude and have tons of things going on at the same time. It would be nice to have something to reflect on, like trip the journals that I’ve kept – except this one is public.
- My friends and family – who I love dearly, but will be leaving to journey out into the great world finding that “something” that we all try and find, but realize that that “something” was in fact what we had all along when we decided to look for it.
OK, not that dramatic! LOL! However, if certain friends and family care to add another blog to their followings and care about what I am up to, then they can add mine. 😛
- YOU – whoever you are!
- Note: I am imagining you to be someone who is in my boat: someone who is in some sort of life crisis or in need to “find oneself” and somehow my blog (and only my blog) is going to get you through this… in a perfect world.
Five: How can you get involved?
Comment and give me feedback! Tell me if I am awesome or if I suck shit! Send me questions that I can answer as a qualified expert of my own personal experiences.
If you live in Toronto: please give me suggestions on things to do, places to see, food to eat!
If you have a business in Toronto: holler at me to come check it out! I love meeting new people and trying new things!
6ix: What are my blogging goals?
I don’t really have an agenda – really… my daily planner for some reason ended in July. (I know you laughed a little)
As for this blog, I hope to be able to share my experiences with you and in return give you guys a place to also share your experiences with me. I hope be able to use this blog as a way to meet The City of Toronto, as well as some of the people that live in it!
I am excited for this adventure of mine to begin, and I am excited to be able to share it with you, but first things is first: I need to get there!
